Course Overview
Develop a fundamental understanding of offshore oil and gas safety with our Minimum Industry Safety Training course. This introductory course provides new recruits with an appreciation of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered offshore. Each unit has been designed to focus your attention on your personal responsibility for safety, which not only influences your behaviour and attitude towards your co-workers, but also the installation and environment.
Important course information
This course is OPITO approved and is valid for UK waters and areas where OPITO courses are accepted. If in doubt, please check with the Rig Operator, as they will confirm whether you will be allowed to travel offshore without the MIST beforehand.
It is expected that this programme will be taken after the OPITO approved BOSIET course. However, if this is not the case then the BOSIET course will be required prior to travelling offshore and the delegate should expect a small proportion of repeat information.
Reassessment, via an online assessment, will take place every four years or more frequently if persons have not worked offshore for at least 12 months.
Please note, the OPITO approved certificate for this course will be issued at the end of training as an e-certificate.
Discount
An additional Ā£50 discount on the OPITO MIST course fee is available when booked online at the same time as the OPITO BOSIET, using code MIST50.
Validity of certificate
This certificate is valid for four years, including OPITO registration.
Renewal of expired certification including reassessment is achieved via an online course provider. This is required every four years. The refresher training caters for those who already possess:
a. A valid MIST Initial or valid MIST further training certificate
OR
b. A valid Vantage Person On Board (POB) number AND have worked offshore in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) or internationally. Delegates are required to complete a declaration prior to online course commencement confirming prior offshore work experience, including details of their last offshore trip, to include asset name, location and dates.
Medical declaration
You will be required to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course. An Offshore Energies UK medical is required prior to travelling offshore however this is not compulsory to attend the course.
