Overview
This MCA approved Fire Safety course is aimed at skippers and crew of Category A - D waters and UK inland waterways small vessels and is suitable for fishermen, boatmasters, inshore ferry operators and pilot vessels. It has been developed in accordance with Merchant Shipping Notice (MSN) 1853 (M) The Merchant Shipping (Boatmasters’ Qualifications, Crew and Hours of Work) Regulations 2015.
The course take place at our accredited fire training centre and provides the necessary knowledge of how fire starts on board and how to prevent it, and ensures delegates are confident in the procedures to follow in the event of a fire.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this MCA approved course.
Medical Declaration
Parts of the course are of a physical nature. You will be required to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course.
Course Aims and Content
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Understand how a fire starts
- Demonstrate/describe raising the fire alarm
- Describe/identify the different classes of fire
- Describe/identify the causes of fire
- Describe/identify the common causes of fire on vessels
- Fixed fire installations on larger vessels
Assessment Methods
Delegates will be subject to continuous practical assessment with a full debrief.
