On 25 May we were delighted to again host the Nautical Institute NW branch for their seminar on Casualty Management.

This seminar was designed to address critical issues arising from major incidents at sea.  The objective was to equip participants with valuable insights and  provide interactions with esteemed experts across diverse disciplines.

Attendees engaged in a Joint Engine/Deck Simulator Exercise (SimEx), involving 40 participants in the Simulators and 20 observers in the debrief room. This hands-on exercise simulated a collision and subsequent casualty, expertly designed by FNC!

The highlight of the seminar will be a comprehensive debrief and interactive Q&A session centred around the incident.

Delegates and cadets had the opportunity to visit four debriefing stations, each dedicated to a specific aspect:

A. MCA/MAIB/Coastguard

B. Casualty Investigation/Salvage

C. Insurers/P&I/Law

D. Shipowners and managers

At each station, distinguished Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), led by renowned coordinators, shared their insights and engaged in open discussions, enabling attendees to learn from their vast experience.

The event closed with a thought-provoking plenary session, where key takeaways from the event were summarised.
