Course Overview
Gain basic survival knowledge and skills with this BST Sea Survival course.
Through a combination of theory and practical training, you will discover how to act safely and take the correct preventive actions in all aspects of offshore operations, from shore to installation vessel or wind turbine generator (WTG) and vice versa (during both normal operation and emergency in an offshore wind energy environment).

Medical declaration
Parts of the course are of a physical nature. You will be required to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course.
Entry Requirements
Delegates are required to register as a delegate on the GWO WINDA database prior to arrival. Registration is free. Visit the Global Wind Safety website and complete the relevant fields.
You will need to bring your WINDA ID to all booked training courses.
Assessment Methods
Successful completion of the GWO Survival course will allow delegates to:
- demonstrate the requisite awareness of site organisation and legislation relating to the roles, responsibilities and rules applying to offshore wind farms
- understand the importance of correct clothing and conduct in an offshore wind farm environment
- detect and treat stages of cold shock, hypothermia and drowning in an offshore wind environment
- demonstrate the requisite knowledge and skills to recognise the advantages and limitations of personal LSA and PPE and their correct and safe usage
- demonstrate the requisite knowledge related to GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems) and SAR (Search and Rescue)
- demonstrate the requisite individual and collective skills to enhance the chance of survival in a sea-based emergency at sea
- demonstrate the requisite knowledge to recognise the hazards and risks of transfer, take the correct preventative measures into account and use the available LSA and PPE in a correct and safe manner
- demonstrate the requisite knowledge to ensure safe conduct on installations, vessels and WTGs during normal operations and in case of emergencies and evacuation
- demonstrate the requisite skills to conduct safe transfer of themselves and equipment between dock and vessel, and WTG and vessel
- acquire the requisite skills to assist in Man Overboard (MOB) situations
Delegates can reflect on and process their learning outcomes and key takeaways from the module, aiming to achieve a high learning transfer from the module to his/her way of work. Additionally, the aim is to give delegates the opportunity to conduct an open-minded written and oral formative evaluation of the training.
Teaching and Learning Methods
This short course is delivered in 8 hours (one day) with no independent study required. It consists of 40% theory and 60% pool-based practical learning.
Industry Placement and Field Trips
This course has no industry placement and no field trips.
Other Costs and Equipment Needed
You should being swimwear and a towel. All other equipment/resources you require for this course are provided by B&FC at no extra cost.
