Course Overview
Update your training certification for Personal Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSC&RB) with this one day STCW MCA approved revalidation course. Under the STCW 2010 requirements for training and certification, updated PSC&RB proficiency training needs to be undertaken every five years.
This course provides the essential education and training set out in Table A-VI/1-2, consisting primarily of exercises at our marine lake training facility. Assessment is by direct observation, oral questioning and simulated scenarios.
Entry Requirements
Before embarking on this course candidates must be at least 18-years-old and hold a current PSC&RB or Lifeboat Certificate. You must bring evidence of this, which can be:
- the original certificate
- a certified stamp of completion in your discharge book
- an Able Seafarers Certificate of Competence
- an Officer of the Watch (OOW) or higher Certificate of Competency (COC)
Those wishing to reduce the training time using a Route 1 self-declaration for onboard training requirement form (Annex E (ii)) must have completed and signed this at the start of the course, otherwise they will need to complete the whole day. The onboard training requirement is to:
- Take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch
- Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship
- Use locating devices, including communication and signalling apparatus
- Apply first aid to survivors

Teaching and Learning Methods
The PSC&RB course is 20% theory based and 80% practical learning.
Industry Placement and Field Trips
This course has no industry placement and no field trips.
Other Costs and Equipment Needed
The dress code for the theory element is smart/casual; most of the course however is of a hands-on, practical nature.
You will also need to bring:
- a boat suit or waterproofs
- a working kit, including safety boots and warm clothing
- photographic proof of your identity, such as a passport or UK driving licence (compulsory to attend the course)
- if appropriate, your completed and signed Route 1 self-declaration for on-board training requirement form Annex E (ii)
