Course Overview
This 3.5 day course is offered with the option of twin, single fall or combined fall training. If you are in doubt as to which you need, please check with the Rig Operator or call us to discuss on 01253 504800.
Aim of course
Gain the necessary skills and knowledge required to operate an Offshore TEMPSC.
This course is OPITO approved and is valid for UK waters and areas where OPITO courses are accepted.
Validity of certificate
Two years including OPITO registration. This certificate should be revalidated with the Further Coxswains Training course up to 3 months before the expiry date, incurring no loss of time on new certificate start.
Entry Requirements
Delegates must be in possession of a current in date Basic Offshore and Emergency Training (BOSIET) certificate or an in date Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET).
Medical declaration
Parts of the course are of a stressful and physical nature. You will be required to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course.
An Offshore Energies UK Medical (Formally OGUK) is required prior to travelling offshore however is not compulsory to attend the course. For an up to date list of doctors providing this service visit the Offshore Energies UK website.
Assessment Methods
- Maintaining operational readiness of TEMPSC
- Preparation of self and TEMPSC crew
- Preparing TEMPSC for launch
- Boarding personnel to TEMPSC
- Launching TEMPSC
- General Boat Handling Skills (incl. recovery to falls)
- Selecting a safe area
- Maintaining safety of TEMPSC and Personnel
- Disembarking and transferring personnel from TEMPSC
This course is assessed with a one hour written assessment and practical competence assessments throughout the course.

Teaching and Learning Methods
This course comprises 30% theory-based with 70% practical learning onboard lifeboats.
Industry Placement and Field Trips
This course has no industry placements and no field trips.
Other Costs and Equipment Needed
Most of the course is of a hands on practical nature. The usual dress for theory sessions is smart/casual.
Equipment you need to bring:
- overalls
- one change of warm clothing
- one pair safety shoes/rig boots (if available)
- gloves
- photographic proof of identity, Passport/Driving Licence - this is compulsory to attend the course

- Safety Boots/Wellies (on request)
- Waterproof Trousers/Jacket (on request)
- Gloves (on request)
