Course Overview
Upgrade your UK waters BOSIET/FOET certificate with this Escape Chute upgrade qualification. The course is aimed at those intending to work in UK waters and/or who wish to fulfil temporary contracts in Norwegian waters. It is run in connection with the mutual recognition agreement between the UK, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands. Please check with the duty holder/employer as to its suitability for your needs.
You must bring your current certificate as proof of eligibility, or other appropriate evidence i.e. Vantage printout, when you attend the course. The evidence must show the expiry date of your current certificate, which needs to be in date, or you may not be able to undertake refresher training, which could result in having to transfer to a full course at a later date. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence. Please contact us if you are unsure of the validity of your previous training.
Validity of certificate
Four years, including OPITO registration (back-dated to your original BOSIET/FOET course).
Entry Requirements
You must be in possession of a current BOSIET/ FOET certificate issued by an OPITO approved training provider.
Medical declaration
Parts of the course are of a stressful and physical nature. You will be required to to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course.
An Offshore Energies UK Medical (Formally OGUK) is required prior to travelling offshore however is not compulsory to attend the course. For an up to date list of doctors providing this service visit the Offshore Energies UK website.

Assessment Methods
The course covers the following:
- Escape Chute
- Norwegian Survival Suit
The course is assessed via a practical escape chute scenario.
Teaching and Learning Methods
This two-hour course combines 20% classroom delivery (theory) and 80% practical exercises in our environmental training tank.
Industry Placement and Field Trips
This course has no work placements and no field trips.
Other Costs and Equipment Needed
Most of the course is of a hands on, practical nature. For the theory element, the dress code is smart/casual. You will also need to bring:
- personal wash kit
- swimwear and a towel
- photographic proof of identity eg passport/driving license - this is compulsory to attend the course.

The approval process ensures that staff delivering and/or assessing a given programme are appropriately qualified, with relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
