Course Overview
This course is designed to prepare you for the MCA Signals exam conducted by MCA approved examiners within the College, covering topics such as transmitting and receiving of Morse Code, identification of signal flags, understanding the single letter meaning of flags, and general communications.
Online learning materials are provided, and you can arrange the exam date at your convenience, subject to examiner availability. Please contact us for more information on this. The exam takes place on campus at Fleetwood Nautical Campus and requires a half day attendance at college.

Validity of certificate
Three years, see MSN 1856 Amendment 1. Fleetwood Nautical Campus/Blackpool and the Fylde College is an accredited Maritime Training Centre, and this course is accredited by the United Kingdom, Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
Entry Requirements
This course is a required element of the training needed for obtaining the UK Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency. You can read about the requirements in para. 3.2 of Merchant Shipping Notice (MSN) 1856 Amendment 1.
Assessment Methods
Learners should be able to complete the learning material within 3-6 months of enrolment and must book their MCA Signals exam, within the same year. All enrolments will end on 31st July of the year of enrolment. Maximum enrolment period one academic year
Teaching and Learning Methods
This course is delivered online. The assessment is face to face at Fleetwood Nautical Campus and requires a half day attendance at college.
