Course Overview
The OPITO Further Offshore Emergency Response Team Member (FOERTM) course provides offshore emergency response teams with training and assessment on live fire exercises - in a safe and controlled environment.
Entry Requirements
Delegates should already be in possession of one of these certificates (which must be valid at the time of training :
- OPITO Offshore Emergency Response Team Member
- OPITO OERTM Further Training
Both certificates are valid for two years.
Training and/or assessment activities will include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. Delegates must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.
All course attendees will be required to complete a medical questionnaire and confirm their fitness to participate in the training prior to the start of the course.
Assessment Methods
This course comprises a single module - Further Emergency Response Exercises for the OERTM.
Delegates will have previously demonstrated knowledge and skills and been assessed as competent offshore emergency response team members.
You will be given the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and actions required of a member of an offshore emergency response team when dealing with live fire and emergency response situations that cannot reasonably be conducted offshore.
Delegates will be assessed against the practical learning outcomes using direct observation and assessment.
Teaching and Learning Methods
This course is 10 hours over 1.5 days.
The approximate split of learning methods is 10% theory and 90% practical

Other Costs and Equipment Needed
Most of the course is of a hands-on, practical nature. The usual dress for theory sessions is smart/casual.
You will also be required to bring:
- One change of clothes
- Personal wash kit
- Photographic proof of identity, such as a passport/driving licence.
Safety boots/shoes are provided as part of your fire kit.
