Read about Santosh’s journey studying through Blended Learning at Fleetwood Nautical Campus while continuing his career at sea.

Why did you decide to study by Blended Learning at FNC and what did you study?

I chose to study through Blended Learning at FNC because it allows me to continue working while pursuing my studies. Due to financial constraints, I cannot stay away from sea for an extended period and this flexible learning mode enables me to balance both my professional and academic commitments effectively.

What had you previously studied, when and where?

I previously completed my Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Nautical Science from Lowestoft College.

Tell us about the roles you've had at sea - where you've been and what you've seen and done?

I have worked on both diving support vessels and heavy-lift vessels, primarily involved in offshore wind farm installation projects. I am currently serving as a First Officer and Senior Dynamic Positioning Operator (SDPO) on a heavy-lift vessel engaged in developing a wind farm field near Taiwan.

Why was the Merchant Navy your choice of career?

To be honest, I chose a career in the Merchant Navy to earn a good living while having the opportunity to travel and explore the world. Over time, this profession has also given me a deep sense of responsibility, discipline and pride in being part of the global maritime industry.

How did you find studying by Blended Learning?

Studying through Blended Learning has been a very good experience. The study materials are well-organised, and the college provides excellent support and guidance whenever needed. The flexibility of the program also allows me to manage my studies effectively alongside my work at sea.

What did you learn that has had the most impact/you got the most out of?

I gained valuable knowledge from all the subjects. I enjoy studying and learning in every area, as each topic has contributed to my professional growth and helped me develop the skills needed to progress my career.

What are you doing now and what are your career ambitions?

I am currently working as a First Officer and Senior Dynamic Positioning Operator (SDPO). My goal is to progress to rank of Master in due course of time and continue developing my skills and experience in offshore and dynamic positioning operations.

What would you say to anyone thinking studying by Blended Learning at FNC?
