Published on 03/02/2026 by EGR
Arvind Kumar Yadav decided to study by Blended Learning at Fleetwood Nautical Campus while working on short-term offshore contracts. This flexible route allowed him to continue working at sea while studying for his Higher Nautical Diploma, making it a practical and effective choice for his situation.
Prior to joining Fleetwood Nautical Campus, Arvind completed his HNC at Lowestoft College in the UK in 2015.
Arvind has built strong experience at sea and currently works in the offshore fleet as a Chief Officer SDPO. He has spent most of his time operating in the Persian Gulf, taking part in diving operations, seismic surveys, and a range of other offshore activities. This variety of work has given him valuable hands-on experience in demanding offshore environments.
He chose the Merchant Navy as a career because it offered the opportunity to explore the world while working, something he continues to enjoy.
Reflecting on his studies, Arvind found Blended Learning to be good and very effective. He particularly appreciated the learning platform, explaining that everything on the Canvas model is very well explained, which helped him study confidently alongside his work.
Arvind is currently sailing as a Chief Mate SDPO and has clear ambitions for the future. His goal is to become a Captain soon, and his studies are an important step towards achieving this.
He strongly recommends blended learning at FNC to others, describing it as a fantastic programme for students who want to study while working or staying at home, and highlighting that it is also cost-effective.
To sum up his experience in his own words, Arvind says that "everything is fantastic".
