Minister for Aviation, Maritime and Security visits FNC

It was our pleasure to welcome Mike Kane, Minister for Aviation, Maritime and Security to a warm and sunny campus yesterday.
Mike, along with Lorraine Beavers, MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood enjoyed lunch, followed by a tour of the campus, meeting staff, apprentices and students and seeing education and training taking place. It was refreshing to hear the Minister have conversations with staff around pedagogy and how we are teaching seafarers the skills they need for the future, talking to students about decarbonisation and the use of technology, whilst clearly highlighting that everything is underpinned by people.
After the tour, the Minister hosted a Department for Transports Maritime Skills roundtable at FNC. A clear focus from all in attendance was on growing maritime skills in the North West for the future - a real positive for the region and for us as a maritime campus.
Commenting on the success of the FNC students who have previously won the MCA Officer Trainee of the year awards a record number of times, the Minister said:
"It must be something in the Wyre"
As those who live locally know, this is our local river. So now we know....
