Fleetwood Nautical Campus Supports Maritime Futures Event in Liverpool

Fleetwood Nautical Campus was proud to be part of the Maritime Heritage Maritime Futures event, held across the Museum of Liverpool, Duke’s Dock and aboard the historic SS Daniel Adamson. The event brought together several hundred young people, educators and industry professionals for a day dedicated to innovation, creativity and career exploration within the maritime sector.

Organised in partnership with National Museums Liverpool, Canal & River Trust, Liverpool John Moores University and a wide range of maritime organisations, the event showcased the strength of the region’s maritime community while inspiring future generations to consider careers at sea and ashore.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Students from schools, colleges and universities took part in a wide range of interactive challenges and activities, demonstrating impressive creativity, technical ability and innovation. Highlights included:

1. Eco-friendly vessel design as part of the #FloatYourBoat challenge

2. Engineering concepts, business ideas and heritage-focused projects

3. Innovative thinking around sustainability, decarbonisation and reducing ocean plastics

Fleetwood Nautical Campus marine engineering cadets engaged fully throughout the day, gaining valuable insight into both current industry challenges and future career opportunities.

Industry Insight and Engagement

The event provided a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with leading maritime organisations, gaining first-hand knowledge of career pathways across the sector. Partners included global employers and regional leaders such as Peel Ports, A.P. Moller - Maersk, Cammell Laird, Mersey Maritime and the Canal & River Trust.

A standout moment for Fleetwood Nautical Campus was an engaging talk delivered by Fleetwood cadet Ross Cawood. Ross’s presentation offered valuable insight into his own career journey and highlighted the opportunities available within maritime education and training.

Set against Liverpool’s iconic waterfront, the event also emphasised the strong connection between maritime heritage and the evolving future of the industry. As highlighted by the Maritime Museum, the region’s deep-rooted links to the sea continue to play an important role in shaping career aspirations and opportunities for young people today.
