Cadet visit - Stena Futura

On Monday, 17 November 2025, 15 cadets from Fleetwood Nautical Campus, accompanied by lecturers Tim Ashton and Dina Thomson, had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Stena Futura at Heysham Port, Lancashire.

The visit was kindly hosted by Captain Przemyslaw Plichta and his crew, who gave our cadets an in-depth look at life on board a large vessel. For many, this was their first time on a ship, and they were able to explore the vessel’s systems and operations up close.

About Stena Futura:

Stena Futura is a modern RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) freight vessel operated by Stena Line, sailing daily between Heysham and Belfast. With its advanced cargo handling systems and efficient design, it plays a vital role in connecting the UK and Northern Ireland. Mondays are the only day the vessel is not in service, which made this visit possible. Learn more about the ship here: Stena Futura Details.

About Fleetwood Nautical Campus:

Fleetwood Nautical Campus, part of Blackpool and The Fylde College, is one of the UK’s leading maritime training centres. It offers world-class facilities and courses for Navigation Officers, Marine Engineers, and Electro-Technical Officers, preparing students for careers in the Merchant Navy and wider maritime industry. More info: Fleetwood Nautical Campus.

The officers and crew were incredibly welcoming and informative, sharing their expertise and answering questions about navigation, engineering, and electrical systems. This hands-on experience is invaluable as our cadets prepare for their careers in the Merchant Navy.

A huge thank you to Stena Line and Captain Plichta for making this visit possible!
