Recognition for Fleetwood cadet

Published on 08/03/2016 by ahet

Today we salute International Women’s Day with news that one of our Fleetwood cadets has been commended for championing females at sea and the issues they face.

Sarah Stevens, of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, was shortlisted in the inaugural Northern Power Women awards in the One to Watch category.

She describes her nomination “as a bit of a shock”, adding: “Despite not winning, it was a huge privilege to have been shortlisted alongside some amazing female talent from 700 nominees.”

But it was not undeserved. Sarah is passionate about equality and diversity and is an active member of Compass (the Naval Service’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity network) and the Naval Servicewomen’s Network.

A keen writer, she has also produced inspiring articles included in Merchant Navy publications and most recently a case study about her experiences on the Human Rights At Sea website.
