Course Overview

This course is OPITO approved and will teach you how to undertake a personal controlled descent for tertiary escape from offshore installations using the Donut device, when conventional means are not possible.

Parts of the course are of a physical nature. You will be required to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course.

There is no fixed expiry date for this certificate. This is determined by employer companies as part of their training policy.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Assessment Methods

  • Basic Familiarisation Training – an introduction to the Donut system via classroom induction and demonstration, covering the points of Why, Where and How to use the Donut during an emergency evacuation
  • Basic User Training – Incorporating the principles of the basic familiarisation training, with the inclusion of practical descents from a height; providing the delegate with the confidence and full knowledge in the use of the Donut system during an emergency evacuation

Teaching and Learning Methods

This course has both theory and practical elements.

Other Costs and Equipment Needed

Most of the course is of a hands-on practical nature. The usual dress code for theory sessions is smart/casual. For the practical element, you will also be required to bring:

  • Swimwear and towel
  • Personal wash kit

If you are below shoe size 4 or larger than size 12 please bring a clean pair of old trainers (these will get wet)
