Course Overview

Gain the skills and knowledge to perform manual handling activities safely in the wind turbine industry/environment, with the GWO Manual Handling course. Combining theoretical and practical training, the course encourages positive manual handling behaviour in accordance with the requisite industry standard.

Medical declaration

Attention is drawn to the fact that parts of the course are of a physical nature. Employing companies shall ensure delegates are medically fit to attend training. You will be required to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course.

Entry Requirements

Delegates are required to register as a delegate on the GWO WINDA database prior to arrival.

Registration is free. Visit the Global Wind Safety website and complete the relevant fields.

You will need to bring your WINDA ID to all booked training courses. 

Career Options and Progression

Duty holders are required to show that their employees are adequately trained. For many wind farm operators the GWO basic safety training is a pre-requisite for employment.

Assessment Methods

Following the course, delegates will be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the importance of carrying out work duties in a safe and sound manner, in accordance with the legislative requirements of their geographic location 
  • identify aspects of their job tasks that could increase the risk of developing muscular/skeletal injuries 
  • demonstrate an understanding of safe practices for manual handling, including the correct handling of equipment 
  • identify signs and symptoms of injuries related to poor manual handling techniques and have knowledge of reporting methods  
  • demonstrate a problem-solving approach to manual handling in a wind turbine environment 
  • demonstrate manual handling risk reduction techniques  

Teaching and Learning Methods

This course combines 40% classroom with 60% scenario-based learning.

Industry Placement and Field Trips

This course has no industry placement and no field trips.

Other Costs and Equipment Needed

There are no additional costs. The course is mainly classroom based although there are a number of practical elements to the training that protective equipment will be provided for. The usual dress for theory sessions is smart/casual.

You will also be required to bring photographic proof of your identity, such as a passport or driving licence (compulsory to attend the course).
